  1. St. Louis Rams - Suh, Ndamukong, DT Nebraska
I hope you've already had the absolute pleasure of seeing Suh play football at least once over the last couple of years. He's been more productive at the DT position than anyone I can remember seeing the past 10-15 years. The best words to describe him are he is incredibly disruptive. If you haven't seen him play it's kind of hard to describe how he constantly creates pressure on the QB, sheds blocks, bats pass down or intercepts them. He's not the fastest guy I've ever seen off the snap, but he always creates pressure. He's not the most fiery guy I've ever seen, but he still makes things happen. He's not the biggest guy I've ever seen, but he never gets pushed back and stops the run. In short, the Rams need a DT bad (Carriker should have been a 3-4 DE, not a NT in a 4-3), they're picking first and Suh is the best player in the draft.
  2. Detroit Lions - McCoy, Gerald, DT Oklahoma
Unless you're a Lions fan you probably haven't seen most of the games they played this season, but everyone saw that game on Thanksgiving. As a D-line that was the worst pass rushing I've seen in years. Rodgers was just sitting in the pocket and there was nobody within 4 yards of him most of the time. Schwartz is a defensive guy and he knows that having a force in the middle of the D-line dictates everything from his days in Tennessee having Hayensworth. This year's draft is deep at DT, but McCoy has the quickest acceleration of any of the DT's that can also stop the run. He's also a great leader, he just doesn't have the run stopping ability and all around play-making ability of Suh. Any other year and McCoy would be the top DT picked.
  3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Berry, Eric, S Tennessee
Dominik and Morris will be sorry to see Suh and McCoy gone because they could really use a DT themselves. I'm assuming they won't reach for one in this round since the draft will be saturated with DT's and just take the best player available. It's not like they have a ton of talent on the team so they can afford to do that. Berry has incredible instincts in defending the pass. He has great hands and can really read the QB. He's pretty good at defending the run but nothing special. It's because of this skill set that I think his future position is at FS, but the Bucs already have a great one in Tanard Jackson. One of these players will have to move to SS, because Sabby Piscitelli just plain sucks.
  4. Washington Redskins - Clausen, Jimmy, QB Notre Dame
The Redskins now have Shanahan and Allen running the show. Shanahan runs a version of the west coast offense and that's what Zorn has been running the last couple of years. Campbell hasn't had enough success with it or any other offense since joining the NFL so Shanahan will be looking to replace him. Also, part of the reason Allen was fired in Tampa was failing to find a franchise QB, so he'll likely try to correct that mistake. Clausen was groomed by Weis at Notre Dame in a pro style offense. Weis helped to develop Tom Brady, but he also helped Brady Quinn who hasn't had much NFL success. Clausen appears to be better than Quinn though and much more consistent. Clausen can make all the NFL throws and is pretty accurate, so he would be a great first step in rebuilding this once proud franchise.
  5. Kansas City Chiefs - Haden, Joe, CB Florida
I kind of feel bad for the Chiefs this season because they seemed to be playing so hard but would lose games on special teams and a couple of missed plays here and there. They definitly need to replace the right side of their O-line, but no one is worth picking at this spot. At CB, Flowers should be allowed to continue to develop on one side, but nothing to fear across from him. Haden is nearly a shutdown player at a critical position. He's a quick, a solid tackler, very athletic and smart. He also has pretty good hands. The next best CB in this class is a very distant second place, so it's best for KC to address this need here.
  6. Seattle Seahawks - Okung, Russell, OT Oklahoma State
I think the common fan and draft analyst has been spoiled by the number of talented OT's that have been available in the draft the last few years. Okung and the rest of the OT's available this year aren't in their league and shouldn't be taken as high as Long and Thomas just because they happen to be LT's. However, Okung is the best available player at a premium position that doesn't have a ton of depth this year. He is a a very good pass protecter which is essential for a LT. He isn't overly physical though and is average in the running game. He is strong enough though to keep pass rushers from the QB which is all that really matters. Walter Jones' career is basically over so getting the best LT in the draft at this postion is a great deal.
  7. Cleveland Browns - Kindle, Sergio, OLB Texas
Mangini kept his job by going on a 4 game winning streak to end the season. Since the team will likely remain in the 3-4 they need to get a dominant pass rusher. Every successful 3-4 first needs a dominant NT and the next priority position is OLB. Kindle is looking more and more like the second coming of fellow UT alum B. Orakpo. Kindle is a fast, smart, athletic pass rusher and a sound tackler. He will be the perfect fit for this defense.
  8. Oakland Raiders - Mays, Taylor, S USC
**Buyer Beware** This pick has Al Davis' stubborness written all over it. After seeing Davis insist on taking Russell, McFadden and Heyward-Bey based on their measureables or potential instead of production how can anyone doubt this pick? Mays has tremendous athletic ability at 6'3" 230 lbs and supposedly runs a 4.4 40. However, his production on the field hasn't been as good as his track numbers. He's a hard hitter, there's no question about that. However, he doesn't take great angles and didn't have many INT's at USC. However, in May's defense B. Cushing didn't have many INT's at USC and had several this past season, although they do play two different positions.
  9. Buffalo Bills - Bradford, Sam, QB Oklahoma
Bradford finally comes off the board 8 picks later than he would have last year. The Bills have to get stability at the QB position before they even think about challenging teams like the Jets and Patriots. Bradford is an extremely accurate QB and has enough arm strength to make all of the NFL throws. Bradford has played in the spread offense so he hasn't had to read defenses, but he's very smart so he should be able to pick it up quickly. He lasts this long not only due to playing in a spread offense, he also doesn't have that much college film to judge him off of and he might be seen as an injury risk. If he can overcome all of that, he should make for a fine NFL QB.
  10. Denver Broncos - McClain, Rolando, ILB Alabama
As a whole the Broncos faired better this season than I thought they would. The biggest surprise was the defense and how well they played but they wore down a bit as the season went on. They need to continue to build the foundation and they need a second ILB to do that. McClain is an old school type of ILB in that he is big, strong, a great tackler and another downhill type of player. He has fantastic instincts and quickly diagnoses running and passing plays. He's always in the right position and depending on how fast he runs at the combine he may not even be available here. Either way, their defense doesn't require him to go sideline to sideline so he's a great pick.
  11. Jacksonville Jaguars - Cody, Terrence, DT Alabama
**Pet Cat Alert** The Pet Cat Alert is just a phrase I use for one of my favorites that I would take in the draft much higher than everyone else says he should go if I were a GM. Some of my past pet cat alerts include Percy Harvin, Ray Rice, Donnie Avery, D. Rogers-Cromartie and Antoine Cason. The Jaguars have been rolling downhill ever since they let Stroud go to the Bills. They used to have the most dominant DT tandem in the league and now that title belongs to the Vikings. Cody can help bring their defense back to dominance. He is obviously a space eater at 360 lbs, but his Cody's motor is underrated. He really turned up the effort a few notches his senior year and regularly chased after ball carriers lateraly. Cody doesn't have many pass rushing moves, but has a good bull rush and won't be blocked by one man. For his size he could stand to get a little stronger, but as he his he is still a great player.
  12. Miami Dolphins - Williams, Dan, DT Tennessee
Parcels would probably prefer Cody with this pick if he were available, but Williams is a close second. Williams is a great run stopper in his own right and weighs in at about 328 lbs. He has more pass rushing moves than Cody but isn't quite as consistent. The Dolphins need more depth at NT and Parcels rarely passes up a lineman or a LB that he thinks can help his team.
  13. San Francisco 49ers - Bryant, Dez, WR Oklahoma State
The 49ers rescue another sliding WR like in the last draft with their first pick. Crabtree slid last year with rumors that he was a bit of a prima donna (which proved to be true due to his holdout) but Bryant will slide due to an average 40 time. What makes Bryant special though is his body control. That along with his agility and hand-eye coordination allows him to constantly win one-on-one matchups even though he usually doesn't get a ton of separation. Bryant will round out a receiving core that will stabilize the 49ers for years to come.
  14. Seattle Seahawks - Spiller, C.J., RB Clemson
**Pet Cat Alert** I think the Seahawks have the lousiest RB's in the league, plain and simple. I think Spiller will almost be the second coming of Chris Johnson, only he's not quite as fast and thus won't be quite as productive. Spiller won't have 2,000 yards rushing in as season, but he will get 2,000 yards from scrimmage. He has fantastic hands for a RB, great vision, and he's extremely fast. He even started running with a little more power his senior year. He's also a terrific return man. He will be Pete Carroll's version of Reggie Bush (the USC version anyway).
  15. New York Giants - Price, Brian, DT UCLA
Coughlin obviously isn't satisfied with his defense as he has fired the defensive coordinator. Price represents the best defensive player available more so than their biggest defensive need, but it is a need for the Giants none the less. The D-line as a whole underperformed and Tuck wasn't getting the same pressure rushing inside on 3rd downs that he did in the past. Price is a really great all around DT and isn't getting the attention he deserves. He has an arsenal of pass rushing moves, has a great first step and is assignment sound on run plays. He is very strong and uses that to his advantage in stopping run plays. However, he does need to be more consistent which is why I don't have him higher. These are the types of guys the Giants' GM looks for and drafts regardless of position the past few years.
  16. San Francisco 49ers - Williams, Trent, OT Oklahoma
The 49ers have one lousy offensive line in terms of pass protection. Since they invested a 1st round pick on Staley a few years ago and only moved him to LT a year or two later I'm assuming the won't replace him yet but they definitely could use an elite RT. Williams moved to LT for his senior season but had an up and down year there. However, he was a great RT his junior season and helped to make Bradford look like an elite prospect. Williams has great strength and footwork as a RT and is assignment sound in his run blocking. Perhaps in time he will see more snaps at LT and become an even more balanced OT, which would give the 49ers more flexibility when injuries occur.
